MGB-R02 Youth Engagements This 6th Summer Youth Camp was held at Foundation University
in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental. Together with the DENR and EMB Regional Youth Desk Officers, AO IV Leilani Talattad, the designated
MGB-R02 YDO attended the camp
last April 29 to May 02, 2008. Like in the past summer camps, the activity was
participated in by school children in the elementary level, students from the secondary and tertiary levels, Sangguniang Kabataan, science teachers,
local government officials among others. This is national activity jointly headed by the DENR-Special Concerns Office, DepEp-Center
for Students and Co-Curricular Affairs, National Youth Commission, and the Kabataang Sama-Samang Maglingkod, Inc. This year’s theme is “Climate Change: Warming up the Youth for Global Environmental Activism”.
As mandated by the department, the activity has an annual budget of 5% of the total MOOE less
mandatories and contingencies. So far, a number of 70 schools in the region were
visited by the desk officers. Part of the visit is the monitoring of their existing environment related activities and information
dissemination campaign of the department’s activities which may be of help in their schools and the communities. Courtesy calls were also made in the
local government units for the involvement of the Sangguniang Kabataan. To acknowledge their efforts in actively supporting
the environment-related activities of the department, certificates of recognition and appreciation were given to participating
schools in the region. These schools or individuals were chosen and awarded for being an active and/or supportive environmentalist/s
in the youth sector. These were given during the culminating program of
the department in celebration of the Environment Month.

MGB R02 Presents Benefits
in Mining on Youth Day Forum
The Mines and Geosciences Bureau through its IEC-MIAC Section, presents the benefits in mining and some relevant
issues in the region during the Youth Day Fora which participated by out-of-school youth, Sangguniang Kabataan members and
student leaders from various colleges and universities in the region spearheaded by the Department of Health on May 9, June
3, June 6 and July 5, 2009.
Mining Engineer Geoffrey V. Prado, Chief of the IEC-MIAC Section of MGB was the main speaker on Mining. He focused
on the benefits in mining, issues and concerns and the potential minerals from the different provinces in the region.
